Lol here we go my first effort for this blog, (taken long enough) Loving everyone's work on here as well, he he eric, loving you as a deer!! You should wear it to uni next year. In the mean time my one was inspired by watching pinocchio last night. Figured there cant be that much scary about being turned into a donkey can there?

All the best

Self Portrait Challenge #6: Anthropomorphisation

Sorry for not posting a new topic yesterday, didn't have internet.. but then again noone took the opportunity to post some late submissions any way >_<

Took Francis suggestion for the topic, hopefully it will be more popular with the rest of you than the once I picked :D Bring forth the entries!

Topic: Anthropomorphisation

the ultimate shield.

Superpower was going to be the ultimate shield, but I didn't spend enough time getting the idea across and focused more on the portrait.. im not sure if it worked tbh.. too tired to think properly.. Ill look tomorrow :P

Oh yea, guys stop slacking this isn't fine art! you don't have to post fully rendered pieces. Post your sketches over summer! Have you been travelling? what did you draw there? Shaaare! I'll get some more stuff going soon as I got my scanner finally :)

Why pick sides when the true conflict is within...?

Saw the new theme tonight and wanted to take part before I left for Ireland tomorrow.
It's late so I kinda had to speed through this sketch, but the idea's there. Shame I couldn't convey more narrative/perspective/background. Drawing hands from memory by raising them up and down = oh dear... :]. Needs more flames/birds referencing...

Ah well... least it's a double spread - sketchbook takes a critical hit!

Have a good week everyone!

How about 'Anthropomorphisation' as a theme for next week Erik? 'Weird and Geeky''s all good :)

Self Portrait Challenge #5: Super Powers

If you were in a world were people had superpowers, which would you have? Would you use them for good and be a hero, or evil and be a villain. Try convey in the design what your intentions are, and have fun!

Oh yea, send me suggestions for topics or I'll keep putting my weird geeky once up :D

This one should end on the 11th, and I'll post up the next one then.

iNinja

I wish I had the time to get this done on time, but I have been moving houses and finally today at 9pm I got settled.. and we still don't have internet in the new house or a mirror I can place near my computer. So this one is entirely from my head.. so likeness is none existant.. supercheap motionblur on the rest of the image.. but wrah. I do need help coming up with the next challenge :o feedback, did people like this topic? want something similiar?

Ninjutsu!

A ninja need not always conceal his face, especially not if his blade is guaranteed the final strike ¬_¬
Anyway, some silly sketches for this one, then was pretty happy with one.
Disappointed I didn't get to paint on it though :[, sorry ninjas.

And some strange photos to show the mirror setup and what some sellotape and serviettes will do for you ^_^

Ha

Maybe I'll take next week's assignment more seriously!
I figure I might as well make it cartoony as only my eyes and nose bridge are visible in ninja garb.

Self Portrait Challenge #4: Ninjas vs Pirates

I know people have been busy the last couple of weeks, moving back home for the summer, annecy festival happening and so on. So there was a slight extension to the challenges, BUT NO MORE!

This topic ends on the 3rd of july.

Are you a pirate, or a ninja? What team wil you join in this epic showdown, join either side and make your selfportrait as fearsome as possible. Afterall you can't let the other team win :D PS! No blank paper stealth ninjas allowed.

Only 70?!

Here are two late, 'bleurgh' entries for last week. One, a quick small, silly sketch I did upon my return from wonderful Annecy late yesterday, and I wanted to try the brush pen again today on a larger scale.
Messy, angry, old... and out of ink :p

Self Portrait Challenge #3: Aged-Self

Posting this a bit early, as I'm leaving for Annecy. Keep posting guys, you're all very inspiring! :D

Topic:
Aged-Self
Description: Imagine yourself waking up one morning and suddenly you're 50years older. Draw yourself as an old person, focus on the face, add wrinkles, gray thin hair, and so on. Try to think about how your own facial features would develop over time.
Start date: 6th of may
End date: 13th of may

This next round focuses more on the face than the last one, really looking forward to see your contributions!

p.s. When posting add labels, at the bottom of the post there's an option saying "Labels for this post", press show all and the current once should show up below. Just click the once that fit the post, easier to look through at a later time then. Cheers all!

can I has jellyfish?

Had two hours to kill, so woopwoop. I might work this up at a later time, but for now.. hooray.. octopusErik.. used photoreference for this one, I still struggle with likeness >_< I think I need to exaggerate moooar

Shock me like an electric eel...

Managed to get this done before tomorrow's departures :]

Had some really exciting ideas for this theme! Enjoyed looking into it, then was a little disappointed that I ended up doing a portrait without much narrative. So I did try again, but I still couldn't quite realise my thumbnails. Ah well, fun project :)

The scanner I'm using had a bit of light leak, so some lines were lost in all the white, and the contrast had to be pumped.

Have a great week everyone, I'll see some of you in France,

Up on the shore they work all day,
Out in the sun they slave away,
While we devotin',
Full time to floatin',
In Annecy :p

Monarchy~

This is Shaun Corbet's drawing for the monarchy piece- Erik if you could add Shaun to the blog listings, his email is shakes2524@hotmail.co.uk
:)

Sorry, I joined in a bit late, so my royalty piece is being posted after the deadline- hope that's okay :)! I went with an Arabian nights theme, my favorite ;)! This is my first digital portrait, and I used my webcam photos for reference- haha I wish that could be a reason for the distortion on my face, though!

Self Portrait Challenge #2: Merfolk

Thank you all for participating in the first round! Great stuff, that first post will now be what you'll look back upon to see how you've improved throughout the summer on these selfportraits. We decided that everyone are winners, and that we will have a voting poll for the topic for the upcoming weeks, please post in the commentfield to this blogpost with your suggestions and they will be added to the poll that should be up midweek.

The second topic in our challenge is "Merfolk", design yourself as a mermaid or man. Try make it look like yourself!

Deadline: Saturday 5th, I will put up the next weeks competition early that morning as I'm leaving for Annecy
